Emptying Oil Tank

Hi there,
Looking to buy a pump to siphon an oil tank and wondered if there were any good ones on the market. Looked at a draper one which is operated by your electric drill but was not sure if it would be any good.

Any help would be appreciated.

ive used the cheap water pump bits you stick on the end of the drill !! works fine.
remember to cover the area in absorbent granules and be carefull as enviromental are a quite harsh nowdays!
spill a cup, they excavate about 5m3 and charge you well for it.

Thanks for that Shaun. I found one on Amazon for about £15 so I will order that and see how it goes. Some of the others I looked at say they are no good for flammable liquids but this one says it is suitable for heating oil.

Hi. If for a one off at home it will be ok i am sure. However if commercial use you can fall foul of the HSE. We were made to use pumps that where intrigently safe (No possibility of sparks) these were run with compressed air via compressor. (I think they were named Gurka pumps) When pumping out or transferring diesel or petrol from tank to tank.

drill driven pumps for moving flammable materials are a no go

buy a proper 12v fuel pump and decent hoses

will save you a fortune in the long term as insurance will not pay out for you toasting a customers house
