Anyone got any experience with this stuff?
link is: Tubby UK | Tubby Extra DIY Enamel Bath Resurfacing Kit

I have a chipped, pink bath (steel with enamel coating), want a not chipped white one. Was thinking this could save a lot of time and money (bath is an old emperial sized one built into the wall on 3 sides in a v small bathroom so replacing would be a pig).

Does anyone know if it is worth getting someone in to do it or do it myself? ( I am a plumber but never used this stuff before, seem to be a lot of companies that offer this service but pretty pricey).

last customer i advised to get their iron bath re-enamelet told me it cost her about £120.
thats cheeper tham a new plastic one surely?.

I've only ever seen the ones done by pro resurfacing firms and they ALL had chips in them after a few months. They look good to start but its just not a tough enough finish to withstand knocks and bumps, at least thats been my experience.

I've seen them done OK but I am told the trick of success is in the cleaning, degreasing and preparation of the surface of the old bath. Of course they will only be as durable as a plastic bath surface.

If you are doing the job for a customer, I would probably suggest recommending a professional company. If you don't get it right, you will be back and forwards and may even end up having to give a refund and suffer loss of credibility in the area.

Some years ago a friend had their blocked Drain /soil pipe cleaned out ( VERY OLD 5 floor flat in London ) by a "profesional " using caustic soda, well the whole lot blew back and and covered everything including a enamel bath the soda disolved the enamel ruining the bath. Their insurance company suggested getting the bath re enameled by one of these companys that do it in situ.
The end result I was informed by this friend was like taking a bath whilst sitting on Sand paper you could actully feel the tiny peeks where the new surface hadn't leveled. As with most things, the cheapest way isn't always the best way

There is a firm in Derby that does this, it looks like an old rickety shed, the process cost £700 this was back in 2001, outside the shed was like the forcourt of Citners, new M3 BMWs etc.
The finish was excellent, I dont know how long it lasted though.
