Its with trade 4 skills, a man came round to our house with all the info and have just confirmed that I want to do it over the phone so he's coming round again tomorrow. All sound great although its gonna cost me £26 a week. Im really keen on the idea of it all but after reading some of the threads on here im haviung doubts!!Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

What qualifications will you acquire at the end of the course?

hi i had him come round yesterday,it all sounds too good to be true,he said that after 9,12 months i would be able to become self employed earning up to 60 k a year.
i was suprised to being quoted 3750 for the course(29 a week,110 a month for 35 months).its a lot of money especially with xmas round the corner,but he said''try cutting back,you get nothing for nothing in this world,you,ll gain a c&g 6129 level 2,c&g 6084,c&g 6022-02,c&g 6032,and a bpec nvq level 2"
i would have liked to have gone for it,as i feel this is my last chance to change my career, after being a driver for over 20 years.but i,m not parting with that sort of money,on the off chance.
i would like to know if anybody else has done this course, and what has happened after completing it,if they,ve got a job,and what sort of money.
thanks phil

Hi Philly
I did my training with OLCI Bristol and passed my C&G 6129 in July.
I was made redundant and setup as self employed as of July 1st.
Since then (I haven't advertised, but I'm about to do door drops)I got work from neighboursand I've made just about £2k since 1st of July and most of that was from 1 bathroom job.
I'm fortunate that I live at my dad's place and have no mortgage, but if I did I would probably be getting worried as to the flow of work(I was hoping to pick up a bit more than I have, through word of mouth of the quality of work rather than advertise and go from there). So now it has to be the advertising route.
Most of the people I did my training with are in the same position.
So if you have to have steady flow of money in I would be careful.

you will be very lucky to earn £15k a year with the level of expertize you can gain in 9/12 months.he proberly told you there are 30,000 plumbing jobs available in uk ,if he did he lied.also the plumbing industry is being flooded with poorly and partly trained want to be plumbers.this is not there fault as most just want to make a living.most of these training companies are only intrested in there own survival not those they train

thanks..i think thats made up my mind..i had a feeling that they were full of it anyway, they should be reported to watchdog eh!!:)

phily have you thought about goin to college one night a week and doing plumbing?? i take it you are working?? so if thats the case you can still earn while you learn and it doesnt cost the small fortune that some of these training companys are asking for.. just a thought.
