I broke a basin but apparently because I was directly working on it when it broke - like hands on it - it's not covered. But would have been if I walked in, tripped and dropped my tool bag on it.

Anyone had claim rejected? What did you end up doing?

In this case replacing would be simple but it's a big unusual cream thing that matches cream bathoom.

I dropped my hammer on it

How is the wording on the policy done to allow them to say that?
How is that not accidental damage?
I would appeal that one.
As to the basin, - can you not pick a replacement from somewhere at reasonable cost?

I would ask your insurance company what exactly you are paying for, as strange you are not allegedly covered for materials you work on.

"the following policy exclusion will apply:- 'for damage to that part of any property upon which you or your servant or agent is or has been working where the damage is a direct result of that work'."

I will appeal the decision as it does sounds ridiculous.

The cream colour is the issue in replacing. To my eye a white replacement would look fine, especially with cream and white being quite complimentay colour and the fact there's a white toilet seat in view. It's quite unusual style with a side drainer

It would be an oddball basin!
I bet that basin was very weak anyhow.
I can’t work out why pub liab doesn’t cover you for damage to something you are working on. That would mean just about everything is only partly covered surely?

This makes me so angry! I genuinely hate insurance companies!

You were working on the toilet not the basin! the stupid thing was in your way?

It almost rewards idiocy. Get unlucky while carefully doing your job = no cover. Fly in there like a loon and kick something into something else = covered

Semi countertop Basins Archives - Nationwide Discontinued Bathrooms

What is the customer expecting of you? You might have to just eat a sh/t sandwich and buy something like this with a cream 30mm bathroom worktop.

That's an interesting link, weird that is just lists colours but doesn't show basins but good to know cream basins are available. Googled cream 30mm worktop - good to know that exists too! I'd suspect that a slightly wrong shade of cream would be a bad look though.

Not sure what the customer is expecting of me. The best they can get I suspect. Just not obvious what that is at this stage.
