Hi All,

I am after some advice in regards to an existing sewer house connection. I have a property where I am looking at completing a small townhouse development - 3 x 3bed townhouses. The existing sewer hc for the property is assumed to be a 100mm stub.

When completing small developments like this people would generally add a note saying upgrade existing 100mm hc to 150mm. To upgrade the hc, owners consent to the neighboring property may be required if this is where the existing main runs through. If you can not obtain owners consent are you able to prove that the existing 100mm hc has adequate capacity to service the development?

I have read about fixture units in AS3500 and just want to know whether this is the right path to go down? Is it as simple as looking at Table 7.1 and assuming min grade of 1:60 so 115 fixture units are allowed?

Thank you in advance.

Contact you local council or water / sewer authority.

You will have to submit plans to them and depending on where you are, will depend on their requirements.

You're going down the wrong path by trying to work out the requirements through Table 7.1.

As a side note, wait until you get to the Storm Water Requirements on the project you are embarking on.
There worse than the sewer!
