Hi,
Does anyone know where I can get the really good bungs (the ones that have a smooth taper and jubilee fitting to go on the external of the expansion pipe). I only seem to be able to find the stepped ones that only fit badly.
Thanks.

I dont like loft spaces (stiff knees and ladders dont mix), so I prefer a freezer unit, less risk of sudden wet feeling at ankle level as the rad lifts off the wall, however I think I got my bungs off regin display board in merchants

Got a rad valve change this week and considering buying some bungs, although I've never used them. It's on a microbore y plan, I'm just not sure i have the confidence required in these things.

I always use my rothenburger electric pipe freezing kit where possible. Got bungs too but have little faith

are you changing valves as well ? try a carrot for feed and a spud for vent, works for me

Freezer would be no good for this job even if I had one lol.

It's a fairly big house, so concerned about filling up problems/air locks etc. how do you use these things safely?

tbs, why?
ive done heat exchanger replacements on bungs.
you need to drain out about 3-5 liters after fitting the bungs to get a solid seal on the bungs. word of advice though never attempt it it there is a thermal store fitted as you will end up with a store that resembles a crushed coke can.
regin bungs are the smooth tapered ones got mine from hrpc but dont know if they still do then as i havent been in there for years. a few people on here arer now using jetsweat expansion plugs but they arent cheap.

why is a freezer no good then, short pipe runs to rad or hidden behind rad

I've never used them before, always gone for drain down in past. Got 4 rad valves to swap on 2 rads, so could be a real time saver, just got no confidence in them. Need convincing lol.

Would you turn off all rads or is there enough of a vacuum left open?

Been using bungs for about 7 years and never had a problem. Just have to make sure they're fitted nice and tight. Saves loads of time and headaches.

As gasmanrob. Used reign bungs to change pumps, zone valves and rad TRV's. Just make sure got good seal. Bit of a pain if no outside drain as you need draw off 2-3 litres to get vacuum to hold.

regin bungs is just what i am looking for - thanks for your help.

Been using carrots and spuds all my working life (taught by grandpa) and always work.

Old pointy carrots that are going a bit soft work best.

Might take a speedfit cap and a carrot with me then lol. Should I peel it first?
