My expansion tank keeps overflowing and my overflow pipe is blocked ,so water keeps coming through the ceiling. Had plumbers in twice and had tank emptied and new ballcocks fitted to cold water tank and expansion tank. They are unable to access overflow as it is in a very tight space they say. This happens whether I have heating on or not and can start any time of the day or night.

It's not a problem with the tank. You need a better plumber.

Whereabouts are you? One of us might be nearby.

AS above, you need a Plumber that understands heating or a heating engineer.

And more importantly you need the overflow sorting out, even if it means running a new pipe.

would this cause overflow even if hot water and heating off for extended time e.g 3 days ?

spoke to new plumber and he says as water in expansion tank is clear it can not be coil/ HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where do you live? You're not having much luck finding a decent plumber by the sounds of it.

Went on rated people and got yet another plumber coming at 4.30 today. has lots of 5 star ratings and is well versed in heating issues.

Please log in again and tick the little box "Remember me" otherwise we could be talking to somebody else not you Susied and things can get mixed up. Ta.

leaking coil was my first thought, we shall see :)

ball tap passing,
heating pumping over,

leaking coil would be way down the list

made my suggestion based upon the first plumber having already changed the inlet valve and the assumption that he would have surely checked for the obvious pumping over if it was occuring so eliminated those two causes.
