Can an external expansion vessel for a central heating system be fitted horizontally?

bugger getting it to stay on the wall holder though, best not to really, as they are designed to work upright

Refer to manufacturers instructions. One here says "must be installed vertically". If it says that and you fit horizontally and it leaks, you may be in trouble.
