Your average apprenticeship is 4 years. I did 6 weeks training, 2 months out shadowing an engineer and now out on my own with the same firm I shadowed.

Now I know I'm bloody lucky to be where I am but...

I was sent to install a shower the other day, baring in mind I've never installed a shower before. The old shower had been ripped out completely and just had the 2 pipe holes in the wall. The back of the stud wall was exposed.

Shortly after I arrived the builders turned up to fix the plasterboard to the back of stud wall. I told them I'd be a couple hours and they said they'd go to another job, return the next day and leave me to it.

So knowing I had the rest of the day I went and did 2 other jobs that were on my list before returning to do the shower. My thinking was, I'd rather get those other 2 jobs done and work late doing the shower than take a while on the shower and not turn up for the other jobs.

So I get a call from the boss having a pop saying installing a shower is schoolboy stuff and I should know this already.

I'm just a bit ****ed off that I get made to feel like a tw@t because I'm doing a job I've never done before and I want to make sure I do it right so it took me longer than expected. I can't be speedy-effing-gonzales over night!!! AARRGGGHHHH

Rant over.
I know I'm being a little girl.
Good night and may the gods be with you.

You can't rush a good job! You'll get the hang of how to do different jobs etc & how to approach them as you go along...

What sort of shower was it mate?
It was only a bar mixer but stupidly I was doing things ar5e over t1t.. it had backplates that went on the tile rather than the ply and I didn't know they went on the tile. In my short life as a plumber I've only seen concealed plates.

I learn from my mistakes, rapidly! Haha

At least next time I'll be a bit more on the ball ;)

sounds like a fast fix kit, there brilliant... Just stick 2 coppers out 150 apart & no faffing with joints in the walls etc.

It was a fast fix kit. They're so easy, even I can do it :O haha

Well done got biting your tongue I would've told him to poke his job up his bum. Keeping my trap shut was never my strong point.

sometimes when theirs a rush on you can't see the wood for the trees! Just need to look at what needs doing then plan what your going to do then do it........if it was your first one it will always take longer:wazzzup:

Jay you got patience, I would of told him to 'do one'

I've always said ill never work for a firm again, its hard enough with impatient customers try to rush you; let alone a boss.

I just take my time and do a tidy job first time; as call backs cost money

I wish I was in a position to go it alone but I'm no where near. I should just try and ignore the pressure but it's hard at times. Hey ho, the experience is golden and worth the grief I guess ;)
