Unvented set up, heating expansion vessell. A friend has tried to release pressure from their heating system by letting pressure out of the heating expansion vessell!
They explained that the pressure guage had risen to nearly 3 bar so wanted to release some pressure.
They said that water came out of the schrieder valve. Am I right in thinking that the vessell is shot and this would explain the rise in pressure at the guage?

Water from the shrader valve = split diaphragm /bladder. Have a look at the size of the system before you change it, Eg underfloor, might need a larger one.

No underfloor just standard 3 bed semi (with loft conversion).
Dont know if it was a bit of water or a lot until I look (does this matter? If diaphragm is ok should there be no water whatsoever?) Told him to stop messing and the vessell is knackered.

Ok sounds like new vessell needed.
Thanks for the help guys, only ever install them, never had to go back to any issues/maintenance.

Unless I have been lucky I have never changed a external / remote htg vessel ( plenty in boilers ) very unusual for them to go, has it been in long, ? And it seems odd there's one in a 3bed semi, I am presuming the boiler one is knackt.

Although, you can get a bit of condensation building up in the air side, bare in mind, air does have moisture in it. But if it's pouring out then its knackered.Take the shrader valve out, attach a manometer hose and re-pressurised the system to push any water out, see how much is in there.

From memory its a traditional boiler with unvented/sealed system put in. So both exp vessells in a/c.

Exp vessell is upside down. Thought this was wrong at first but apparently they can be fitted in all orientations. Don't know if this would have any bearing on the water issue or wear on the bladder.

If the scraeder valve is at the bottom, then I wouldn't be too hasty to replace it. As Bewsh said could be condensation. I have had this a couple times, especially in Vaillant boilers for some reason??

Take out the scraeder core and let the water out, if you get more than half a cup, it's shot.

Not sure about removing the Schrader perhaps depressing the center pin to test, as it can be a bit wet if the diaphram has gone - dropped valve core or dropped valve cap - finger over the end and lots of swearing.

Are these shraeder cores easy to take out? I was just gonna do as arthur said and depress the pin to ser what comes out?
What are the symptoms of a split diaphragm on the system?
They seem to think pressure keeps rising to 3 bar but no mention of it discharging.

If they are not playing with the filling loop - ie has it been left open/partially open - if not, then does an almost constant discharge of water occur when the schrader is depressed?
Also isolate boiler from system discharge water from boiler & with the discharge point open check the pressure in the vessel - could have no charge - re-pressurise, note pressure have a cup of tea re check in about 30mins has pressure dropped - new vessel required - sometimes easier to install another elsewhere if the one in the boiler involves lots of cut hands.

They are easy to replace. They just unscrew, all you need is a removal tool, something like this:
Silverline 380159 Tyre Valve Core Remover 96mm: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike

Handy to have anyway as sometimes the schrader valve will leak, and new schader valve cores are pennies compared to replacing the expansion vessel.

Ive got a little tool from Halfords which you can take the core out and put a new one in. Usually do it anytime I repressurise a vessel as usually rules out leaking core.

Only reason I know, did a job for mechanic, seen me LDF scraeder and he tells me that you can replace them, gives me a few new cores and I bought the tool from Halfords.

Usually find taking it out gets water out quicker. Like Arthur said, get water out any which way, pressurise it up, and give it half hour with foot pump attached and see if pressure has dropped.

Yeh like chalked said theres possibly a tear in the bladder . I've came across a few systems with over the stated amount of water and no extra vessel. Was it a lot of water that came out or a spit?

Not going to look until next week Kris. I think they have been messing tbh.
Thanks for all this really info guys, appreciate it.
Will keep updated.
