Hi,

Looking for some advice on what type pipe I should use for installing an outside tap.

My house is quite new (2004) so all the internal pipes are plastic, I need to put outside tap in back garden. Kitchen is at front of house so not easy to run pipes from.

Bathroom is at back of house so I'm looking to get cold supply from 1st floor bathroom go straight through wall and run pipe about 2-3m down external wall to tap position.

My question is, what sort of pipe should I use for the external drop and how should this be lagged for frost protection.

Any advice you guys can provide would be fantastic.

Thanks,

Peter

Copper will be the best bet for as plastic degrades if exposed to sunlight and is difficult to keep straight.

To prevent freezing externally you'll need some very hefty insulation. I'd be inclined to make sure it's turned off at the inside stop tap in the winter and use a thinner insulation. You'll need to use armaflex insulation as you need a waterproof one. Normal insulation soaks up water and promotes freezing.

Don't forget you'll need a double check valve inside the house.
