Hi, Not done much on these before. Its a Flavel Windsor Pebble FSRPUOMN about 4 years old. Got PDF of MI's, parts are available!

Problem - customer wants a price over phone - How to estimate?! I've staled for time saying I'd check parts available!

Are there an good fault finding flow charts? ie where would you start and how would you test? It does light manually. Would you use a test meter - worried if it generates 600ov - would it blow the meter?

Help as always much appreciated cheers.
 
Hi, I think the Windsor HE range are battery operated ignitions, with the control pad on the side, you shouldn't have any problems if you used your m/meter.
To be fair giving a quote over the phone is difficult, all you could do is quote you callout/labour cost plus the price of part, depending whats found faulty.
 
Cheers Aggis - This one is the non HE and is push button ( but other HE ones are either battery or push button!). That was my first thought - battery! Damn! Not used m/meter on fires - just boilers so far, so not sure what to look for in terms of voltages/resistamce etc. I read the piezo's push out 6000v. Is that right? 'm pretty sure my meter is only ok up to 1000v max.
 
1000v eh?

the piezo is an easy one to test, it either sparks or it dont.

The spark is high voltage, low amps. Shouldn't harm your meter, but as said, it either sparks or doesn't.
 
piezo test is simple put one finger on the electrode and push the button with the other if your elbow immediately makes contact with the nearest hard corner its working
 
for my sins i am the service engineer for these in cf and sa post codes but dont see many he fires only seen 2 they are remote control,most of the problems will be with weak battery's in the box,rh side lower of the burner,it dont generate 1000v,it has around 8 aaa batteries,also check the sensor position for the remote

sensor position as gas man says,a very common fault,often miss placed.

Thanks guys - but this is NOT the HE one! So no batteries or remote? Not actuallt seen it yet - will be next week.
 
If it is a manual one there is not much to go wrong with it. Check spark check pilot check thermocouple check ignition and work it out. Nothing difficult and you can leave the multimeter in the van.
