Had a new Worcester Bosch Greenstar CDi combi boiler installed along with a Fernox filter. Pressure on the boiler has dropped so tried to top it up as advised however this has just cased the filter to develop a dripping leak - any advice on what might be wrong?

You are indeed correct - the filter is leaking. However tolerate a novice at this stuff - it didnt leak prior to me topping up the system and as it was all installed new - in March 2011 - does this mean I have not hiterto realised the filter was a problem or is topping it up been the issue? Will call out installation person who will no doubt not want to know but just wanted to check I hadnt ignored a protocal around these very interesting filter devices.

Thanks for help tho

Is the leak coming from the joint where the filter body (the cone shaped bit) joins the bit with the valves?
If the arrow on the filter is pointing anyway other than up then different o rings would have been fitted. A common mistake or fault when fitting the new o rings is to leave the existing thin black one in position which causes it to leak.

the leak as far as I can detect the source - is from the top of the cone shaped device its running round the seal at the bell end if that makes sense and is quietly dripping down to the pointed end but source is top of filter (filter was a mistake in my view as its just one more thing to go wrong - I could deal with the pipes and other gubbings having this extra attachment is one more headheache - why do I listen to this 'good' advice !! thanks for reply

Probably just needs a bit tighten.
If you have the big plastic spanner that came with it, close the 2 red valves by turning 1/4 turn so the handle is across the pipe. Drain a bit water out of the filter into a bucket by removing the black cap on the bottom and using it as a key for the valve then close the valve and refit the cap. This will take the pressure off the filter and allow you to tighten the big nut on top. Then open the red valves again.

The advice to fit the filter was good advice as it is protecting your boiler and hopefully extending it's life.

That makes alot of sense to me and Im sooo not a plumber professional - will try that in the cold light of day as I think I caused a prob when I topped up as all was well previously - many thanx

topping up wont cause the leak just make it show more probably had a small leak there since it was fitted

Thanks thats good to know hopefully got guy who originally installed it looking this afternoon
