Hi,

I have a Ferroli 77ff combi boiler which has seen better days; it does still work though.

However, I just went to turn it on to continous heating mode and there was a loud bang, followed by rattling/banging in the radiators. It sounded like air trapped in pipes.
So i turned the boiler off completely, and at the mains, left it for a while then turned it back on and reignited the pilot light. The boiler now seems to be fine.
I noticed during all of this that at the bottom of the blue flame in the pilot window, there was something ember like, burning, it looks abit like the end of a burning piece of string or a cigarette end, still alight.

I'm unsure whether it should be there, i've never noticed it before.
Can anyone advise me whether this might be a problem?

thanks
Grey.

has it been serviced during the last few years, dead moths etc on fire?

i haven't had the boiler serviced for a few years, for fear the engineer would condemn it...I can't afford to replace it, at the moment.
re: dead moths. No, this definitely looks like a cylindrical wire or string, it's in the same place as i would expect to see the gas feed for the pilot light, but i wouldn't expect that to glow orange in places like a cigarette end.

It sounds like its in need of a service. There could be a higher cost to pay if you don't keep your boiler serviced and maintained.

you need to get your appliance serviced every year.
if it gets turned off its going to be for yours and others safety, we dont turn things off for the sake of it, although some think we do.

a funeral cost alot more than a boiler service.
