Went to the above old boiler, pump and fan running, but not firing unless I loosen a case screw. Not even a huge amount. Couldn't see any issues with the flue without stripping it down.

Anyone any experience of these boilers? I blew down the pressure switch tubes back to the fan and they appeared to be clear.

I've ordered a air pressure switch so I can go back at a later date and spend a bit more time there as I was only there to look at the other part of the system. It's not an urgent job as there a brand new Worcester G'star 42 CDi Combi in the other part of the building doing the majority of the property.

personally id be looking for dust in the fan scoops. alpha and baxi solos have a similar thing. the scoop collects dust smooths out and stops moving the ammount of air needed. a small paint brush a bit of huffing and puffing if your feeling in a good mood maybe a can of compressed air and a bit of soapy water from a spray gun dry it off see how that does it.

ps if that works it'll be £60 PM for bank details i accept transfer, cash or your mother inlaws gold fillings

Also a very slight leak on case seal on these causes co to skyrocket. You would think it would drop but no . Pressure diff allows more gas in from zero governor and she's in the high 279's

What do you mean by fan scoops? Are they zero governes on these? It's a standard efficiency model, no secondary heat ex.

the blades on the fan, cups, scoops, impella, whatever wou want to call them the bit of the fan what does the air moving

Ahh wait...... i see the problem.... yup, yeah that's definitely it dont tell the customer but it looks like someone has fitted a ferroli

From the fault finding it suggests giving it a clean or replacing the APS, which were my next steps anyway, so hopefully that'll do it. I just hope I get a bit more time the next time I go and don't have to spend time looking at the Greenstar and the rads throughout!

Last time I had this on a ferroli, the flue vert flue had collapsed and it was new boiler time.

This is a horizontal flue. I couldn't check it very easily, but hoping I get the time to next visit.

Check collar inside boiler at top.

This one got the Venturi like falcon? They just melt or snap off?

You're bang on mate, I changed the fan in an F24 the other week, thought I'd just check the venturi on it and it crumbled it bits in my finders

check for split in silicone tubes to aps as well, otherwise as said buy new aps and venturi as it will break when u touch the tubes. Otherwise a good little boiler despite the ner do wells comments, its the modern follow on boilers that were crap. this one had b all to break seeing as it has same principles of function as the intergas boilers of today

Fitted the aps today. Same. Took it apart, venturi looked fine, flue looks fine. Then I went and snapped off the fan connections, so it needs a fan now too! Oops! But I seriously can't see what's wrong with it. There's a large plate above the fan, which seems to restrict the air flow. But it's literally plate. Doesn't seem to do.anything else. The case only needs to be slightly ajar for it to work. I might have to strip it some more when I go back with the fan. I've ordered a venturi too.

So I went back, wrong fan. Tried swapping the motors, but the impeller was seized on. So I went back the next day, put the right fan on, fired up right away.

I think it was the venturi in the end, the whole fan unit was thick with dust and I think it may have clogged up the plastic venturi. The white one is actually long and thin, poor design really, allows for dust and debris to easily collect in there.

Lesson of the day, be careful with plastic bits on old boilers !
