Got asked to up tools and leave a full bathroom install the other day by a fella who's now begging me to come back and finish the job having admitted he caved in to his missus' moaning that the job wasn't done yesteryear. My brother has said there's no way on earth we should go back and that he's (the customer) made his bed and should lie in it.

The customer now realises that our work, professionalism and attention to detail is beyond the 5 or 6 other plumbers and firms they've had quotes from to finish the job in the last few days.

I've negotiated £3,000 labour (which would save him at least £1,500 if he were to employ one of said 5 or 6 other people/firms) to get the job finished. It'd take 5 days=£300 each per day.

Should I stick with my brother and make the customer lie in the bed he's made or should I try to persuade him to bite the bullet and our pride and finish the job? Gotta call this this customer by 11pm tonight to give him a yay or nay.

Paragraph 2 Doesn`t add up
Paragraph 3 Why negotiate the price unless it is now more

Have you/ will you get paid if you don`t go back?

Probably doesn't make sense because I was rushing but I've literally just got off the phone to the customer now to tell him we're not coming back. Cheers!

Tired at the minute and can't really think but I'll clarify the details when I get a chance.

No worries, we don`t need to know the details.
Whilst you are here, the customer with the smelly bathroom is best avoided, lets just say I`ve followed the post across different platforms and that they don`t listen. Best pick someone else to help imho. ;)

Nice one, I'll get round to the details when I can because they're important to the situation.

Regarding the smelly bog thread I popped in there earlier and decided it's not worth the time and effort to continue with it. Don't know what the deal is but I suspect ex-members are behind it. Could be wrong but I wouldn't put it past a certain few. I think you know where I'm coming from with this... ?

Would do it as the same price of the others upto him as he’s messed you about
Considered that but to charge above £3000 would be extortion. He's gone for the cheapest of those other quotes which is a local firm who can start in the morning. Mrs Keefy's workplace recently cancelled said firm's contract because their workmanship is atrocious.

Edit: The missus just told me it was Liverpool Housing Trust who didn't renew the firm's tender due to shoddy workmanship.

Nothing to do with ex-members it started on another platform as I said.

you want to be above the cheapest by a decent wack what’s the other 4 come in at ?

Oh right, it was an out there assumption I know. What do you reckon the deal is with this one then? We've had new guests/members like this before who've eventually gotten around to the point after long winded conversations.

It can often be that it's their first ever time posting on a forum and they mistakenly feel the need to over-indulge details which can lead to confusion for everyone. Even if we figure they're time wasters I think we should still be polite.

His cheapest new quote was £4,300, the highest was £5,600. There would only have been £1200-£1400 left to pay for the job to be completed by ourselves. Even though the customer pee'd us off for what he now admits was a huge mistake on his behalf I can't stand idly by and watch him get ripped off. Like I say, there are important details to the whole scenario which I'll update you all on when I can think straight.

the thing is he’s not getting ripped off as all of them have quoted within a k of each other maybe look at upping your prices ?

Bite your lip go back finish the job take the payment agreed £300 a day each is a good rate , he's had to eat humble pie to ask you back realising his mistake , it will do your reputation no harm social media can ruin you and your business negative comments on these platforms will do you no favours , as I said previously you don't have to like the guy to work for him do the job take his money move on dont waste your energy getting all worked up over it . Regards Kop

Hi Keefy,

1. You were asked to leave the job
2. You were then asked to return to complete the job
3. You opted not to return to complete the job
4. You're now worried about the customer being ripped off.

Any of your feelings or concerns should have ended at Point 3.

Mine would have ended at Point 1

Never been asked to leave a job. Walked off twice and told a customer feck off before I even started on another.

Been on a couple of jobs where it's been hard work between the Mr and Mrs. Why have you done that? Because your other half said so. No I wanted it like this. You can have it like that, but any extra time and materials needed to change what I was told to do is chargeable.

The only thing I dont like is the odd individual who thinks they can talk down to you because you get your hands dirty for a living.

Saw the fella in the pub again tonight, the replacement tradesmen have begun to finish the job we started today but it's costing him £4,300 instead of £1,200. The new fella's told him the previous plumbers/tilers/electricians/plasters/painters (me and our kid) have done a great job and they're happy to follow on from the work we've left them. My reputation is intact, he's told many people, all of whom I know - that he completely messed up by laying us off and saw three more locals book me in for jobs tonight.

I informed him that he's the first and only customer to ever ask me to leave a job. His original problem was the price but he's now having to pay 5 times as much. Since learned I'm obviously not charging enough.
