putting a fire place in annd there is a step up into builders opening. customer bought this all in one set up, fire surround etc.problem is the hearth is 50mm thick and i have to rise it to 90mm leveling it with builders opening.what would you do in this situation and what would you use. ?

difficult, won't it look a bit of a pigs ear whatever you use to raise the hearth up? Custard should have had a suitable hearth made to correct thickness me thinks.

is there the option to re-size the builders opening to fit what the custard has purchased?

chop the level down and make good to your new hearth if necessary build your opening to suit, its not to difficult bag of cement,2 sand and a few commons away you go
