Hi All,

ive just done my first plumbing small plumbing job and have some questions for those working in the trade.

1) i was on my knees most of the day while i was working and i can now feel the knees are alittle swollan, any tips on how we can aviod this or reduce the wear on the knees. ive bought some knee pads so hopefully that will help alittle.

2) i drained the central heating as i needed to reroute the pipes. when i cut into the pipe water kept on coming out it wouldnt stop. so i had to pick the pipes and soilder them, but still the pipe wasnt reaching its temp so soilder wasnt sticking. Any tips on how to remove the remainder water from a pipe?

1,use knee pads, sit on your tooshie, keep moving about.

2,use a wet and dry vac to suck the left over water out, blow down the pipe to move the water elsewhere in the system, use a compression fitting.

1.i think its just damage limitation with the old knees. A cheap memory foam pillow may help to kneel on if you dont get on with shin pads.

2.would a self cutting tap give more control in this instance perhaps. Just an idea.

1. use pads, always, kneel on one knee at a time and changeover, i have been plumbing 25 years and my knees are in fine fettle, ( i think !)

2. Do as Mr Wheating suggests and do not use push fit or other types of temporary fitting if its either in a screed or particularly inaccessible place, i'm never without my Charlie, saved my life on may occasions.

sounds like the knee pads were an afterthought, did you buy the strap on type?
they are useful, but the strap digging into and sweatin the back of the leg is also not good after a day.
best to invest in trousers with knee pad pockets

First job and your knee's are already shot?

Wet vac is a must, get the smiley face ones as they take mega abuse.

As everyone else has said really, but with the trousers make sure you get a belt on as your trousers fall during day and pad are no good for your knee's when they are at your shins,
