I was fitting a new heating circ pump in my holiday home and both screws rung on me while doing this but managed to get the bottom one back to when it needs to get water flowing though the other side is only 1/4 turned and leaking. While going into the city to get new fittings, I forgot to turn heating off after leaving :( I'm wondering ifvitll still be OK till the morning because I dont want to drive another 2 hour round trip to turn it off. Pump still working but terrible noise from it and throughout the house. Pump is very old and parts rusted hence new one getting installed.

When bought fittings in the plumbing shop, I've noticed on the 2inch fitting that there's a 2 slots each side and thinking these will leak after fitting onto pipe and circulating pump because of something I mightn't know. I've fitted numerous pumps before but never had to fit these new isolating fittings before because anytime I have, the screws haven't rung. I'll post pic soon of what I'm talking about so you good people can put me right when fitting these.

Do I use this green washer along with waser given with pump or just the rubber washer with pump.

Another thing, when draining my system, there's a drain valve on corner of boiler but is this for oil or water, can I use this to drain system or just use a rad to drain system. Big headache all this just to change pump :(

The quarter turn rad valves as pictured above always leak from the spindle after they've been touched in my experience.

The two slots on the knut are so you can remove the nut when the valve is in place and wont be a problem as the seal is formed by the washer between the flat of the valve and pump.

Do I use just 1 rubber washer or rubber washer with green one that comes with fittings.

Use just the rubber ones with the pump. Make sure you remove the old ones sometimes they're stick to the valve face.

Your correct in what you say. Wrap a turn of ptfe round the olives before tighten it up or a bit of paste to make sure it is 100% water tight.

Is that the olive that's already on the pipe. Just one turn of PTFE as in wrap around once.

What about filling system back up. Do I open all vents on rads when draining system then close when filling. After filling, when balancing system, don't I start from upstairs?
