Can some one advise wether you need to be higher qualified than the old nvq level one basic plumbing to be able to replace a vented hot water cylinder in a customers property?

many thanks

dave

need a ticket for unvented , normally says on your quals tho what you have achieved doesn't it??
To be honest tho i know loads of peeps who do there own plumbing if you feel confident give it a whirl .

technically in GB you dont need to be qualified to fit a cylinder, however if fitting for a customer things like public liability ins etc come into play and if not qualified you could be in soapy bubble I dont know what nvq level one taught so cant comment on it, if you are talking about you fitting it, can you do it competantly, do you know how to do it and are you aware of the pitfalls obvious and not so obvious of you not doing it properly, if so then crack on

i am employed by a housing assoc as a plumber and have been asked to replace the vortic economy seven cylinders numerous at the request of my line manager am i breaking any regs?

if you are emplyed as a plumber then they are saying you are qualified as a plumber so you should be able to do such a basic task, the economy 7 has cold feed in and hot draw off out, it should take longer to fit and rewire the 2 immersors as it will to fit the cylinder, the trick with this type of job is organisation, first thing get in and shut valve and start draining, then get new cylinder in and fit new immersors and new tappings, if you are reusing the old tappings then start disconnecting at the top after it has been draining for a couple of minutes, same if you are reusing immersors (i prefer to renew immersors TBH) soon as it is empty get it out and stashed in the van, position new one and reconnect to existing if you are lucky, if not slight alterations required refill and test, 1hr tops

I agree don't take to long but not that quick either

sorry gents i disagree, i have changed loads of direct cylinders in 1hr, cause i know what im doing and HOW to do it (thats the secret) where is there more than 1hr work in changing an economy 7 cylinder? as i described the trick is to utilise your time, start stripping the top fitting while it is draining, and connect cold feed first and you can turn on the supply and part fill while you connect the draw off,

And write your invoice out with your left foot.
