whats peoples prefered fixing into plasterboard or the better fixings for hanging rads to plasterboard

There are several types of fixings to plaster board, all will hold a radiator,I prefer the type were you screw the first section into the board then scerw into the first secured section
However on all fixings ,I apply silicon or grip fill to back of radiator bracket that meets the wall this stops any movement and spreads load, taking away from fixing, also on hall radiators I never fit one (if plaster board walls) that is at a good hight to seat/lean on

If you have to you can get some of that pigeon spike wiring and stick to top of radiator :D

On plasterboard walls that have an external block, I was told to cut out some of the drylining to fix battens straight to the solid wall and then fix the radiator brackets to the battens, seems to work well and was real quick with a Fein Multimaster power tool.

If it's a standard stud wall then I tend to use the hollow wall anchor type cavity fixings. If the wall hasn't been boarded out you could always try to get extra studs / noggins in at first fix. Always better to fix into timber if you can.

Of if the plasterboard is dot & dabbed on to a block wall, get right through the board and into the blockwork with long enough screws & plugs. Just don't over tighten them or they will compress the board.

i looked at these fixings but didnt think they had the strength to hold rads.

i like the gripfill idea aswell somthing i will start using on when hanging onto plasterboard:)

we have hung combi's on three of these fixings to plaster-board stud, sound.

My choice is simply red wallplug or brown if red's not big enough.

And for cavity, they're on the expensive side but I feel ultra confident with these:

And for bigger stuff, I'd go shopping for some sort of bolt.

They're the ones I use. If you use the proper setting tool ( Rawlplug Setting Tool - NoLinkingToThis, Where the Trade Buys ) they work really well. I've tried the screw in ones but have had a few fail so won't trust them now.
