Float valve

Hi, I'm new to all this but I've got a dripping/leaking overflow pipe in a 1970's bungalow, I'm sure it's coming from the float valve because it's not ****ting off completely and constantly dripping although when I raise the ballcock it stops.? The next thing is I can't see where I turn the water off to this tank, there's no where in the airing cupboard where the hot water tank is and no where up in loft, all I've found is 2 red taps in the loft which shut the water off in the bathroom, any help be appreciated, cheers

There probably isnt an isolation valve , just turn it off via your stoptap , but do it correctly and fit an isolation valve as close as you can to the ball valve conection

If the float valve shuts off can you not just adjust the float height so it shuts off earlier??

It will only shut off if I lift the ballcock up, I think it's got a Pegler 1 valve so only way of adjusting it would be to bend it I guess.

Yeah I'd heard they are old skool the part 1, I can't find a stop tap anywhere only ones I've found are connected to the two pipes coming out of the bottom of the tank which turn the water of to the taps in bathroom.??

There has to be a stopcock somewhere. Check in kitchen below sink or at back of other units. Or it can be elsewhere, in airing cupboard etc.
You might find it seized anyhow. There will be an stopcock outside the property.
Part 1 Peglers ballvalves are really good valves and can be repaired easily if not all badly corroded. But they can be noisier than the new part 2 valves.

If replacing ball valve with similar. Leave in place threaded part that goes through wall of tank. Normally new valve assembly can be split and will match existing.

Thanks everyone, I did see on YouTube about splitting the new valve and conncting it to tank, thing is I still can't find the shut off valve inside the bungalow and I've looked everywhere so gonna see if I can find where to turn it off outside.

You will have one inside its just a matter if finding it , if your house is the same as your neighbors, could you ask them , you need an internal stoptap not just for maintenance, for emergencies.

Cheers everyone, found it in the end it was in the boiler room behind a shoe rack, got the new valve and ballcock so will crack on with it at the weekend.
