flue guards?

anyone know the situation regarding flue guards with condensing boilers using a plume kit ? flue outlet is below 2m but plume kit takes it above ive not seen one with cut out for plume kit
im assuming the elbow at the bottom of the plume kit is just as hot as a normal flue and do we protect the plume pipework up to 2m ?

Not needed with a plume kit as MIs always state flue outlet must be above 2m.

reason i put this item on here was to clear my own confusion in a recent gas mag ,either installer of engineer .They showed some examples where a plumekit was used to move the point of exit of flue products to a safe position this was deemed un safe as flue exited the wall in an illegal position

I had a situation when installing a Ideal Mexico 36HE with a plume kit the air intake was under the 2m high limit. I had to cut away a flue plastic cover to allow the rise of the flue outlet pipe to be above the 2m level. As far as I understand the air intake is not a concern with safety flue rules. Only in as much as it must be protected against any thing being poked inside or blockages. Its the flue terminal outlet that's to be covered if under the 2m limit.

rydell, the air intake is just as important as everyother component in the system.
imagine for a second just blocking the thing up because it is in the way!
to touch the flue sytem you need to be gas registered.
if its been tampered with, at the very least you would of invalidated the boiler warranty.
hope you checked the combustion process afterwards and fga'd the thing.

Shaun the plastic thingy was a recommended flue guard grill to cover the air intake. As far as I know there is no other flue guard cover with the guard cut a way for the outlet pipe from the plume kit.

It's possible the main outlet was too close to an opening. Most plume kits will allow you to reduce the distance to an opening to around 150mm instead of 300 as long as the discharge point of the extension is 300 from any opening.
