hi, anyone got a simple way of sealing round the bottom of a flexible flue liner ?
thanks in advance.

its just a rough builders opening, closure plate and gas fire gasman. thought of packing it with rockwool DG

It does need to be supported though if there's a chance of it falling back in :)

i sometimes use this

Support Assemblies
12025.gif
Part No.DescriptionUnit PriceQty
12026100 mm - ( approx 132 mm i.d. )£21.71
12027125 mm - ( approx 158 mm i.d. )£22.96
12028150 mm - ( approx 178 mm i.d. )£24.65

from bes with pillars bricked up the sides,so your creating a stone chamber

i place it with the liner connected on top of the chamber then build a brick u on top of it,dont confuse this with a normal liner support plate its very different its designed for this purpose also if your fitting a marble set bring your chamber forward slightly its much easier to seal to the back panel

Looks like a dodgy shirt!!!

We use to brick up the annular space but that was forming the seal around the copex and boiler enclosure! If you've pulled out a back boiler and are looking at ways of sealing around the copex then that can offer challenges! i wouldn't recommend rockwool in that instance with the fear of it dropping and filling the flue space and fire spigot unless you can get something guaranteed not to be effected by the heat!! Can't you remove the liner?

lol, you have both lost me. got fire which needs a liner down chimney cos its spilling through brickwork and need a simple way of sealing liner at the bottom. not fitting marble surround, and builders opening has lots of rough brickwork and soot in it. if it was nice and square not such a problem but

I believe rockwool is a secondery measure, kind of after thought when with bbu's they didn't fit debris plates!

All it would take is one course of bricks off the original fire opening to brick up and form a flue chamber at the bottom of the chimney Steve, is that a possibility or is disturbing decoration out of the question?

also have to take out existing fire surround to put box in. will go back and look again and clean out opening and see if i can brick it up square and put plate on top like DG SAYS

Second look will make things clearer mate! I've screwed debris plates up on a clear 'square' of bricks where the chimney space has throated to a 12"x12"? Regs now ask for a maximum chamber space though don't they?

anyone got any photos of how to correctly fit a liner and the plate at the bottom .i have seen so many bodged ones

If you are dropping a new liner why not get a gather hood made up attach it to the liner pull liner back up and seal gather to brickwork with s/c, new pot and cowl job done
