Just bought Ideal Standard Ceramix Alto bath tap, the gasket is foam. Should I replace it with a rubber one? Foam won't last as long, and will deteriorate?

I have used IS taps and never had any problems. Why would a quality manufacturer supply a part known to fail (foam gasket)? Once in place I cannot see why the foan should deteriorate. On a lot of close coupled WC's the doughnut washer is foam.
