My own personal opinion only
First I would say I think gas safe are doing a good job at the moment and the service is a lot better than the corgi service and more directed at safety and regulation side and not trying to be as commercial as corgi.I am a supporter of gas safe over all
However I have just opened this month’s edition of reg gas engineer mag to the centre pages, expecting a good story about the big chill we experienced over winter
There are a few facts in there, adding up to a small section, coldest winter for 31 years, average temp was 1.51 C as opposed to the normal 3.7C, and gas demand peaked at over 465million cubic meters on 8th Jan,around 25% more than the seasonal average
Then we go into free advertising mode, cheap journalism at its best, suddenly I find myself reading how good a big independent plumbing firm (They named it several times, could not mention enough) are and how they saved half of London from freezing, how great BG responded to the siduation and what a great service a large parts supplier gave, this all centre spread!, how much would true advertising have cost, think at least they could have had the courtesy to have placed ‘ADVERTISMENT’ at the top of the page instead of pretending it was a genuine article.
How the small trader or parts supplier, many of which were doing just as much, if not more would have given for such coverage, this they could have done if they wanted to take this slant on story, they could have rang round and got some stories from local small companies, but no we end up with the three mentioned but then again many of us small outfits do not have on hand press representatives that lazy journalists can just ring up and listen to their twaddle over a nice meal and bottle of wine +
Is this the start of the slip...........
IMHO
