Hello all !! A little advice please
i currently have the oftecs, unvented and essential electrics (basicly can wire from a fuse spur)

as part of my apprentiship im gaining

Ccn1 gas core
Cen1 boilers
Ckr1 cookers
htr1 fires
Wat1 instant water heaters
dah1 warm air
Lau1 tumble dryers (cursed things)
Met1 meters

After i will add lpg on for permanent dwellings, caravans and the associated tickets with them :)

anything else that will make me a desirable engineer ? Other than commercial tickets?

thanks for time given

Experience :)

Punctual, hard working, tidy and good customer references.

Seriously though bit's of paper are only part of being a good engineer.

Thought about renewables? Boiler fault finding? or specialising in one or two things?

I have three years experience so far ! (Not bad as I'm 20 aye )

Willing to work late and weekends too

renewables don't really attract me at the moment, i would prefer to not fork out for the training and then join a company that doesn't do it :) apprentices pockets aren't that deep :p
as for the fault finding and wiring thats quite possibly my strongest asset !!

Suggestions for specialisations?

Think you will find boilers & water heater have merged & can you use a gas analyser cos that is now part of the CCN1. Have you not done Water Regs ?

Oh i forgot cpa1 !!
Water regs are an add on towards the end of the course

the apprenticeship is a gas one, not a nvq level3 :(
my employer wanted me just as a gas engineer (sadly)

Specialisation suggestions :-

Anything that you enjoy and makes you the most money. If your happy in your work then it's like being paid double.

Mine are

Bathrooms - love the mix of plumbing, tiling and design.
Oil Breakdowns - gets the grey matter going, especially when you are the 2nd, 3rd, 4th engineer to have a look and nobody before you has fixed it. Love a challenge.

learn the art of plumbing so you can install central heating systems the customers happy to look at, remember the russians can cut our gas off anytime they like so we will have lots of frozen pipes to repair:smilewinkgrin:
