Hello chaps, would like a bit of advice, a boiler thats being located near to an incoming gas supply, needs more installation room than currently available. There is currently no heating in this property and also no gas meter installed. When the gas board come to install the gas meter any ideas of how much they would charge to cut about 20 inches off the incoming barrel so the boiler has ample room and install the meter lower? many thanks Dave...

they wanted £3500 to move the meter 2 metres so who no,s think they make it up as they go along

i believe it. i knew a guy quoted £7500 to move a meter from upstairs to outside an industrial unit , he ended up getting it done for £1200

could be also £250, thats a price i was given from a national grid guy on a foreigner if i ever need him.

yep i new someone quoted £4500 got it done for a grand good for 20 mins it took him

yes I have a guy also who did a course he paid for and is now a foreman and they have now paid for him to do his commercial ticket

Money for old rope, here in thanet nothing moves fast ive been told regards to transco or subs and theres no deals to be done, ah well il hand this one over to the builder done my bit thanks for the input fellas..

there is always someone who will do a private but when you think about it you could be held liable if it goes pete tong , not something i would get involved in myself , I enjoy my sleep to much

I must admit if i had a decent paid gas job i wouldnt risk it for a fifty...

Not being funny m8 but this aint your problem its the customers problem so let them deal with it and move on . Just a word of warning if it goes wrong you could end up getting banged up or worse still killing yourself or your customers and or their neighbours

First thing first, If there's been no meter installed for years the service might have been cut off in the road. If it is steel and live, it would have to be replaced or inserted back to the main. If it is pe inserted it will be even worse as the annular gap will have been cement grout sealed.

Not looking like a cheap job. To alter a service illegally is asking for some serious trouble if it goes wrong, HSE don't like that sort of thing at all.

I cannot see the problem here if the meter needs moving get the customer to pay for it end of story , If you did move it and it went wrong the customers house insurance could be invalid which would then go straight back to you, I would seriously reconsider changing your trade if you even thought about doing that

Thankyou for you reply chaps, there is no way on this earth i would consider ****ing about with the incoming i dont work on the pipe line, i dont touch gas the (right side of the meter) me im a hot and cold services, heating controls engineer. Job done, property owner needs to get the meter moved. My first thread in this room and cheers Dave...

dont think anyone is saying you should get it done illegally think i would be very uncomfortable about it,but there are people who will do it but its about who you get when they come out to asses it, like said above your in the stum if owt goes wrong and not worth the risk, just i no its been done mainly builders cos anyone owt to do with gas would think twice
