Hello,

A on a job today the customer requires a combi boiler fitted, the only space available is above a double electric plug socket in the kitchen ( too many shelves etc elsewhere ).

I recommended an electrician either isolates and blanks off below boiler, but I have read a thread that there is no legal requirements about boilers above sockets!!!???

In this situation the boiler would be about 250mm above socket, i can re-route pipework away from it also so as not to block it etc!

I was thinking more along the lines of common sense approach, drips years down the line...?
Or am i worrying to much,

Any input appreciated, Regards!

how close is this gas pipe going to be to it ?

isnt the minimum 25 mm ?

I can run the gas pipe away from the socket and elbow across under the boiler, so it will be approx 300mm to the gas pipe.

My main concern was the socket below the boiler itself. But i have yet to see it written anywhere that it cant be done.

I may phone gas safe and ask... may aswell get my monies worth from em!

Just spoke to gas safe technical.

The chap said he knows no reason why it cant go directly above a plug socket...

I hope this helps someone else in the future also!

a gas pipe needs to be 25mm away from a cable, but must be 150mm min away from any switch

Can't see any problem with socket location, other than distance from gas, being careful not too drill through the wires when mounting the boiler and making sure that if you use the socket to power your boiler, it should be an unswitched shuttered socket or fused socket.

now looking at this from a common sense and a maintenance point of view i can see a problem what would happen if a leak occurred (as they do down the line) and water got in? yes it may be legal but for the want of a sparky or in my case i would move it i would get it from under the boiler

Where not separated by electrical insulating material..........which could mean a bit of black tape¿

you are 100% correct, but if a pipe is installed to close to a socket, covered by black tape which then comes off later then it will not be right, and questions would be asked why it was installed poorly then taped, i believe the ability to cover the gas pipe with insulating material is to be used say under a floating floor where minimum clearences cant be met,
