A tenant has just run out of gas and so has topped up. The boiler is now not working and it says "flame failure"

I am thinking there is not enough gas being pulled through. I have had her running the hot water, but still no joy. She is going to top up a bit more as she has only added £6 and has £1.80 on the meter now.

Any other things i have over looked. I dont want to call out the engineer yet because i think it is this simple problem

If there's gas there's gas , what boiler is it ? Maybe needs purging through the hob ?

it is a main combi. there is no gas hob, only gas fire. could we purge the gas here?

why does the gas need purging ?

dont think she can light the fire either. I am thinking she hasnt put enough on the card token

What's the meter reading , if it's saying credit she has gas , if there's no gas meter is caput

where is this anti tamper setting ? How will i know it has been set off.

Look at the display and if it says OFF then the ATD has been activated and you'll have to get the supplier out to reset it.

I think If she has tried to use the appliance after she has ran out of gas then the pipes will be full of air and need purged! I take it you're not gsr, just keep running and trying to re set the boiler and it will purge itself?

Exactly where did the air come from if she ran out of gas?

And how would they fill with air?

So if you had a boiler with a pre paid meter and the gas ran out as you were using the boiler the boiler would shut down as it has used all it's gas! What would be left in the pipe? It isn't a vacuum is it? So there must be something in there

Eh, gas¿

Yes.

It is called GAS.

There is no pressure to push it into the appliance :dozey:

Would it be safe to assume that your not GSR jefaz?

This is one of the main reasons I'm glad I don't work for housing associations anymore.

You decide mountaingas!
I hear what you are saying however I have been to numerous properties where they have ran out of gas on a pre paid meter! I have had to go and purge the system as they won't light! Like I say neumorous times!

I think that you can guess my opinion on your qualifications and experience jefaz.
I'm not belittling you but some things are really basic and if you have a guvnor sending you out on this sort of thing without adequate competence then something is very wrong.

You ARE on a wind up here aren't you! Think very very clearly about what you are saying.

If air, at a neutral pressure, is getting into pipework that normally contains gas at a positive pressure then it follows that there is a definate fault with the pipework permitting gas to escape. You are running around resetting and 'purging' appliances, walking away and leaving it in a potentially dangerous state!

You, Sir, should hang your head. You most certainly are NOT GSR! If you are trying to convince people that you are then I hope you either stop now or get caught before someone gets hurt!

Bearing in mind I did fail my Physics O level, but that was through lack of commitment more than anything.
Air as you mention is not at neutral pressure. It is at atmospheric pressure.
So as soon as the gas pressure in the supply pipe becomes more equal to atmos pressure you may have some air getting in.
The meter shutting down and the gas valve closing is not a instant process that happens excactly together.

Just like a positive pressure mask. It is no longer safe if the air pressure inside becomes the same or less than that outside it.
