FlowGas

Hi all,

Just some advice needed to fast track the fault finding for a job tomorrow. The customer is having an issue with their grill. When you push the gas tap in, allow the gas to flow, give it a spark - it ignites (While keeping the tap pushed in - they are able to get it to full flame) as soon as they let go of the gas tap - the flame goes out. Could someone please point me in the right direction, any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

Thermocouple, but not sure if they call them thermocouples on cookers.

Depends on make some have flame failure devices. I think cooker manufacturers should give more fault finding info like boiler manufacturers do.

Its getting the parts that are a problem, and the amount of work involved in changing simple things like thermocouples / thermostats , some cookers its a major strip down, get a few on holiday parks, built in cookers and very little information on how to access parts for replacement.

Check M I s. Its defo a type of flame / pilot failure like a thermocouple but youl need a part number or contact the manufacturers. They might have a technical helpline. I totally agree with Buckley, cookers should have more information like boilers.

They probably do have breakdown spec but it will be for there engineers or you have to buy a license.

just id the model and go onto a specialist cooker parts supplier to get the fsd and a powered screwdriver for all the screws you need to remove to get at the old one.

Just check the fsd is definitely in the flame and hasn't fallen down. If it is just get model no from badge on the back of the cooker and you can get them in somewhere like espares or partmaster. You'll have to take off the top of the cooker and get clattered in grease to put new one in!

Better still, tell them its been discontinued & will need a new cooker.

If it's an old cooker, could b cheaper in long run to replace whole cooker. Parts for cookers can b hard to trace!
Personally I like to avoid them if possible.
Usually ye can pick up bog standard units for less than 200 notes these days.

Alost certainly a thermocouple. Get model no/serialnumber and contact Gas Appliance spares. Found them by far the best over many years

2100 EL range - Gas Appliance Spares (Preston) Ltd.

Get a trade account for 20% discount with GS number. I have a monthly account but not sure if they still do that as recently taken over.

If you use a tablet at work, you can get the details up on the retail side, show the client, and you know you are 25% ahead.

IMORTANT: Read the ID section for important info on cooker parts.

You will find that Glen Dimplex are the ones now for Stoves & other cookers

Hi Gents,

Just wanted to thank you for the advice, it was indeed the thermocouple. It was a headache and took alot longer than expected, the end result was achieved and it's now working well.

thanks
