Gas detectors / sniffers

Anyone got any preferences or recommendations, don't really want to spend to much as I've not needed one up until now but looking to get one to hopefully make things a bit easier when the dreaded occurs.

I got one with my Kane 455 only played with it on my own cooker seem very sensitive

I used it on a gas valve on a boiler and was showing a leak so I did a drop test digital no drop at all so didn't know which one to believe then

You have to be careful as they will pick up LDF. Obviously large concentrations of methane will give issues as well so I struggle to use one.

I have also got the one with the kane kit but it is as you say, confusing. Says it smells gad when there is no drop when tt's. Strange

Mine sounds like a gieger counter,scares customers to death. Think its kane havent used it for a long time and its dayglow green.

I've also got the Kane one, came with my 455 kit. Looks a bit like a kid's toy, bright yellow plastic. However, I've used it twice in anger, and both times it's picked up minute leaks that didn't cause LDF to bubble. You have to be a bit careful as it's very sensitive and will react to LDF. I let mine stabilise in the general area of the leak, so that it's a bit desensitised if that makes sense. Then it will only pick up higher concentrations of gas.
