Gas fire Coalridge circa 1995

Our gas fire does not ignite. The engineer we called told us the gas valve is gone and because of the age of the gas fire these valves are not available anymore. True or false ? If true, where can I find one please ?

try phoning cannon! Could just be as simple as a t'cupl ... does the flame light but not stay on, or doesn't light at all?
