got a phone call saying could i go and have a look at her cooker, she had just moved into this rented property and the cookers not working,to cut a long story short the house had a combi put in a year ago and forgot to tee in the cooker, this was the first tenant since the combi going in,the rest of house was no better the benchmark had not been filled,no room stat, inhibitor.main boiler, the regulator on the meter was throwing nearly 30mbar with the boiler on full rate, got that sorted !,the fire looked like it had not been looked at in a long time the coals were missing, missplaced and broken, how would you deal with the fire.

If the fire is that bad I'd try to persuade the landlord to replace it or cap it off. If you do commission it you must replace the coals - best to check the MIs. Jonathan, That Extra Mile Plumbing, London

i have capped it off with the tenants permission, can the chair brick be repaired as this one was severly cracked.

coals, coal bed and there correct position are important to ensure these types of fire works correctly. Many fires need to have the coals positioned exactly as the manufactures require, get hold of the fires instructions before you repair anything so you can make sure its all correct.

The fireback can be replaced if cracked. As above, unless you can get hold of MI's & parts required, push for it to be replaced.
