Hi everyone, recently came across a gas fire install where the copper feed pipe passed through the chimney breast of a class one chimney into the builders opening. The pipe of which i could see was almost totally buried in concrete although it did look to be tape wrapped. There was obviously no sleeve as it passed through the brick chimney from one side to the other. The other problem is that where the pipe drops down the wall at the side of the chimney a feature fire place has been built around the whole chimney making the pipe tatally inaccessible and possibly creating a duct! My question is would it be ok to install a fire onto the existing exposed 15mm copper pipe?? Any advise much appreciated.

Think you know the answer ,obviously no,you should find were the gas pipework is located outside of fire place area and re-run correctly, disconecting existing pipework
Pleased you are now finding your way around the c~~~p site,:D:eek::rolleyes:

the pipe can pass through wall but must be sleeved and sealed and the pipe protected cant remember the exact regs its in the british standards and poss the corgi book

Thought so, mate its taken me ages to find that little icon that says "new thread' ! Have been getting very frustrated but am very happy now! Cheers for the reply puddle.

So you think the pipework that i cant see that must run inside the feature brickwork(between the feature brickwork and the original class one chimney) is a no go and must be by passed why?

Is it actually ok to bring a gas pipe through the side chimney wall into the builders opening as long as the pipe is sleeved sealed fire end and wrapped in the builders opening? Obviously this saves bringing pipework around the chimney to the front of the fire where it would look untidy. Also am i right in thinking you cant bring a gas pipe into a flue box( ie drilling through the side) even if you seal where it comes through?

New to fires and cant find any clear answers in corgi book!
