gas hob clearance

been a while since I fitted a hob so dug out my viper book it shows hob 300mm from adjacent cupboard or surface also shows shaded area and shows 50mm either side of hob . does this mean the hob can only be fitted 300mm from a wall either to left or right of hob or can it go 50mm from wall .it shows diagram but no description

50mm from the hob to the back ie tlies etc, i think 300mm either side

300mm from a unit, 50mm from the worktop which is accounted for in the hob itself yet to see one that isn't!

from memory i think its 300mm above and to each side for wall units and 50mm from the hob to the back ie tlies etc, i think 300mm either side

50mm to the side sounds a bit close to a unit. especially if theres abig pan on diverting the heat sideways....
