Hi all

having a argument with another gas safe engineer about when fitting a female iron to the gas hob connection under the work top do you guys use a fibre washer ?

Yes washer. If you usr just ptfe later on you get called back to minor leaks. There was a thread on this before last yr some time

Depend on the fitting.

If it's a taper thread and the seal is made by the threads use ptfe or paste. (A true iron threaded fitting)

If its two flat machined faces designed to take a washer (like a tap connector) and compress it then use a washer.

It's probably the first one. If you try using a washer on iron threaded the washer will probably be destroyed as the two parts pull it in either direction as it is tightened.

with all the tech we have today you would have thought we could have a decent connection on gas hobs by now.

The connections on gas hobs are unreliable. First place I look when there's a leak.
