Hi every one first time I've asked a question so bear with me here goes. When fitting a gas hob with a electric oven whats the best practice / gas regs regarding the pipe work to the hob can a flex hose be used or must the pipe work be rigid ?

Thanks for the quick replys. When would a flexi hose be allowed to be used on a install for a cooker ?

Thanks for the info. When would it be ok to use a flexi hose on a cooker install if at all ?

haha this is going to invoke all the old statements from us again, but its better than whats on the telly!!!!!!!!!!!!
the MI of an appliance will state the installation pipe variables, and in the case of BS 6172 (i think!!) on cookers, it states that the installation pipe may be either rigid or flexible UnLESS the MI clearly states that flexible cannot be used, you will/may find specific MI which states "this appliance MUST be rigid piped" in which case it is straight forward, you can't, however most will say "this appliance must be connected in accordance with BS6891" and when you read BS6891 it states that bayonet connectors and hoses to BS 699 can be used as long as BS699 is conformed with, (this states that no part of the hose may come in contact with temp in excess of 70 degrees C or be positioned where it may suffer mechanical damage, so it is back to the installer to decide whether it can be installed to conform with both BS699 and BS6891.

remember the question was "can you" not "should you" or "do you" or even "why would you" so the answer has to be "depending on the MI and relevant BS docs being satisfied" HAHA YOU CANNAE TELL WHAT I DO FOR A LIVING CAN YOU

On that note (best answer so far ) good night and many thanks.

kirk.i thought the question was regarding a gas hob,if so if a heat source is located beneath the hob and infringes on the pipe work then it must be constructed of rigid pipe work, however if no heat source is below and it is free from mechanical damage ie;draws then if mi,s allow it can be connected via a flexible hose.
