It's a stand-alone portable gas heater, the type that takes a 15kg Calor bottle of butane.

The red arrow points to a material which constitutes a white frame around the area that glows when the heater is lit. 3/4 of the length of the frame at the top of the right hand segment fell off.

It heats up fine and there is no smell of gas but in the area now exposed you can see and hear flame flickering which is blue like the main pilot light.

These heaters I think are over a hundred quid to replace and so if it's safe I won't bother. The other thing is might it be not working as efficiently / getting through it's gas supply more quickly?

Thanks

Get an analyser and measure the room CO when heater is turned on, expensive but will tell you if is safe or not.

I think the only thing someone who isn't Gas Safe can do is notice that it's visibly damaged and then call someone from GSR who's qualified to work on portable appliances to assess it.

Probably. I give up anyway. I've been using it for several days like this and am still alive so I'll take my chances.
