more plant room spotting today spending more time nosing around these at the mo than doing my job , spotted a gas lever today with a weight on it i presume the weight is for fall safe purpose but why only half open and how do you know where to set weight?

There'll be a fusible link in the wire adjacent to the boiler. In case of fire the link melts and the weight huts the gas valve. It's not partially shut, it's designed to be open in that position otherwise the weight wouldn't hut it.

I bet that valve gets well stiff over the years! Is it a requirement to disconnect & check the weight shuts off the gas every year?

It's not so much that the dropweight fails to operate but more the firewire gets snagged. I drop these and reset them every 6 months.

Would rather have sensors, solenoids and dedicated gas panels tbh!

Do you know of any rules/regs against having a bypass around a gas solonoid?

is this an older style set up ?

you get solenoids on newer stuff or is this still done?

If there is I've not found it yet, I'd say it's more like good practice NOT to have the bypass - what if it gets left open?

But then I've not found anything in the regs that demands fire protection anyway. I could be wrong and looking in the wrong place mind!
