Am I the only one that is Sick to the back teeth of the DIY Chains Selling Gas Related Products Unregulated..In a Heavily Regulated Industry.??? Whats The Point of Paying My GSR Membership?

I would Like to hear from any Member/s who have a veiw relating to my Post....

Hello Meterman1, quite agree with what you are saying gas fittings and boilers only on production of gas safe card, oil fittings and boilers on production of oftec card, but I do remember all the carry on with this, something about illegal trade restriction. Apparently one of these daft european rules about not being able to stop somebody buying certain things.

Whats wrong with selling a Gas related product to the general public? Its upto the public to decide if they want to break the law. What about restricting sales of car products in Halfords to only qualified competent mechanics? And electrical items? Where does it stop? Only 1 pint of beer allowed to be served at the pub as you cant be trusted not to break the law when you leave? Lets not get too nanny state over this. Lets face it the government allows car manufacturers to produce cars with top speed over 140mph and well whats the point with a national 70mph speed limit and they dont restrict sales to trained racing drivers.... oh just over 17 years old.

what we realy need to make gas safe is compulosry yearly checks on every property and appliance in much the way we now do landords checks and same as an mot on your carany new appliances since the last check would have to be accompanied by a certificate from the installer
but then you have to wiegh up the effects this anmount of exspenditure would produce last time i saw the figures for deaths from co it was in the low double digit territory and this included oil gas coal suicides etci think the figure for gas appliances was below 10 cars despite the mot still kill thousands so much more productive to ban cars

Good thing about B&Q, they'll proberly do an instruction card 'How to use' !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is not about being a nanny state. This is about protecting our trade against cowboys.
I think you should only be able to buy goods if you are qualified to fit them.
Why is Mr Public buying a U-Guage, or 25mm Electricity Meter Tails anyway? Its the same as not allowing Mr Public to buy a gun without a gun license.

I suppose the alternative is that Mr Public does his gas work, but then isn't able to do a TT. What's safer? Unless you're also going to restrict the sale of dual use (mmm I sound like an IAEA inspector now :D ) plumbing parts?

you dont have to show your gas safe card anywere so it doesnt supprise me dont even no why we pay out so much to them cos people just seam to carry on getting away with being illegal ,i gave up a long time ago worrying, ave only ever been asked once if am gas safe in b&q never asked for me card tho,to me gas safe is no better than corgi

I went into B&Q as plumbers merchant was shut and asked if they had guts of a tap. They went no!!!! You need a plumbers merchant for that, yet they still sell gas fittings, thermocouples etc etc etc. DOES MY HEAD IN!!!!!

seen a gas fire installation kit today in pee n spew, and thermocouple, boilers, flues, bayonnets, cooker hoses....never been asked to show my GS card

i know what you mean, but you did manage to get your take-away propane supply?.
