There is a special tool for removing these . Using gordons or similar,well there is great potential for nipping your fingers etc! . Personally i just use a small adjustable spanner. I fit the jaws so that they are vertical and the top jaw is resting on top of the washer and the bottom is resting on the underside of the bar. I tighten up the jews and then just bend the bar slightly just enough so that there is clearance to slide the union out. Fit new one and use the small adjustable to bend it back,job done .
