gas pay rates

Have been offered some agency work doing boiler servicing paying £17 per hour, as far as i'm concerned this is a joke .Question i'm asking anyone finding that rates are being pushed down ??

still beats building sites up here, £12.50 odd for advanced plumber, £11 for approved and even less through agencies

had the same here in london !
It was £19 per service per house ......(i asked what about if there is boiler ,hob,fire )
answer was still £19
my answer was i am not doing it my analyser cost me 600 !!!!
got a job with small company 180 per day but only two days this week
next week hopefully three days
going for wed build tomorrow and get my self on google
gave a price for boiler change on Monday, I thought can not this one go as need £,for landlord !
to supply and fit Main combi straight swap gas already 22 , and condense 10min to do . total cost £1,200.00
called back customer going to use BG,,,,,,
can not work some people out

The thing is is that you will get people who will take it and then the price get pushed right down. But if you need the work then you don't really have much of an option really. What can you do if you have mouths to feed and bills to pay. and 17 quid an hour is better than nothing. I don't necessarily think the rates are being pushed down I just think that some firms are pushing their luck.

Is this £17 through an agency, cause if it is then I bet the real rate is more like £22 an hour and they are taking their cut. I'm subbing through an agency at the moment but am in the process of ditching them and subbing direct.

Yes its through an agency but going to start making noises about going direct as i know they using my gas safe reg to basically make money which narks me big time !!

The money the agency takes off me really does my head in. The only reason I went in via them is because I lost my job and they had all the contacts to make me start quikly. I am greatful to them for helping me start contracting but the fact that they make money off my back annoys me now! I have had a slow day today and they still made 45 quid off me its not good. The sooner I get rid the better.
