Gas Pipe exiting from side of meter box

Is it permissible for a gas pipe to exit from the side of the meter box?

Didn't even know there were different types. It's just a standard one as far as I'm aware. I've been told it was OK so long as the exit was sealed. I've attached a picture of the box in question. (Kind of obvious now that I've posted it !! )

Just to clear up any confusion, I'm trying to work the figures for an upgraded boiler as part of my portfolio. Guy that has agreed to supervise me did so rather reluctantly so I want to present the most complete and accurate plan that I can

Funnily enough I was aware of that, perhaps my post prior to yours wasn't clear. That's the current install, but working out the pressure drops I feel that the supply needs to be upgraded and it would be a lot easier to exit through the side of the housing.

Updated a few like that and always run the 28mm the same way as its running now no need to notch the box

Usually a single bolt in bottom centre of the cover, when undone it pulls forward and lifts up exposing the meter and wall bracket. Makes it easier to work on the pipe work if you ever need too. They have a notched fitting around the pipe that's integral to the box design. They usually have a couple of cable ties holding the door on where the hinges used to be.

I was going to cut it to the back and then make up a plate to cover the slot

28 won't do it in this case. Well not by my calculations. Trouble is the property is an extended bungalow with the meter at one end, one boiler at the other end and another boiler and a cooker in the middle
I could have sworn we had a problem given to us in college where we were shown that we could make it work by increasing the pipe size further down the run but I've since been told that you have to come off the meter in the largest size pipe that you're going to use. I'm not sure there's enough room to jump it up to 35 and get it round the corner, hence wanting to come out the side.

No doubt someone else will quote chesper and just connect onto what's there.

depends on the loading but 10 elbows and 40m of pipe at 34kw is ok for 28mm tube

It's not just the elbows though is it, it's another three elbows a meter connector and at least a meter of pipe. about £30 worth

where you getting your fittings from normally around £20 max
