Flojo

(I am gas safe) I am running a gas pipe across the ceiling, notching the joists, checking the regs this seems ok but the ceiling I am running it in used to be the flat roof before the upper rooms where built on it - concrete and ashfelt which floor boards were then layed on so this creates a seal I suppose. (there are some holes in it for other services) but really there is no ventilation and in my mind in the unlikely event of the gas pipe leaking there would be no where for the gas to go... I have not done this type of installation work before so just need to check with someone. Most ceilings would not have ventilation to the outside would they?

You are right Most ceilings don't have additional ventilation, but if it's traditional flooring it isn't deemed airtight, now that we are onto chipboard then if properly fitted the chipboard would be airtight, it also depends on the age of the house and to what standards it was built ( new ones are stricter, I assume this one is old if originally flat roof)
You only need vents if the void is over a certain size and volume, so it is possible to construct an enclosure inside the ceiling that meets the requirements, look in your training notes for these dimensions

Thanks for that information, just putting it like that gave me loads of ideas as to what I could do. Sometimes when I read the regs it has the information there but the application of the meaning I find hard to transcribe to the actual job . Thanks again for taking the time to reply.
