Hi people i have been out working with gse on jobs while taking the evidence and writing out the paper work..
just wanted to no if anyone is in the same position . im trying to do my 20 appliances ready to take the exam...
Do you need the portfolio evidence before you take your exam for gas safe???

Sorry if im going on??

Your acs centre WILL want to see your completed portfolio, before booking you onto the acs exam.
Is it really only 20 appliances you need nowadays?
What elements do you plan to do?

What course are you on?

I'm nearly finished on BPEC Gas foundation and it's 3 installs, 3 services (OF BF RSF) and 3 safety certs + what is done in the centre.

Then again, I'm doing it for just CCN1 CENWAT1 and CPA1

Then doing fires and cookers once I have my ACS so I don't need the full portfolio

the standards at different colleges is so varied, they really need to sort it out and get a better level of consistency

i want to be able to work on fires cookers and gas boilers, going to take my exam at sgas centre.
Iv been told to have at least 20 appliances, either a service .. install or repair/fault find.
the appliances are : Backboilers ? open flued
Gas water heaters
Combi boiers
Fires
Cookers

ccn1 covers saftey on all appliances so cant imagen an acs with only boilers in it good luck

At the local college (north east)you need to do 150 gas hours including appliances so i guess it varies across the country

I am looking for a Gas Safe training course that will get me Gas Safe registered. Been speaking with OLCI, CFT, and Train fot trades. I have my City&Guilds 6128, Water Regs, Vented & Unvented, all done through New Career Skills, and my CSCS card. Have been trying to do plumbing work since Oct 2011, and now looking for a Gas Course and my first van. Anyone got any ideads on what training privider to use, please. Also, any Gas Safe Engineers or Companies out there who would care to let me build up my portfolio with them, please?. I am based in Peterborough. Many thanks guys.

My GSR only has CCN1 and boilers so it's all I can do for my portfolio. Cookers and fires are done in college. I have paid for CCN1 CPA1 and 1 appliance.

When I have done CCN1 & CPA1 and my 1 appliance, I can then do HTR1 and CKR1 but I don't need to build up a portfolio of evidence as I already hold CCN1

I understand the ccn1 and cen/wat 1 part I have also went down that route even though i had about 200 hours on each appliance boilers/cookers/heaters/warm air units. its the ccn1 part deals with safety controls on all appliances as well as other things flueing/pipe sizing /room ventilation so ou must be aware of them all dont just consentrate on the boilers as ou will fail the rest.

finished my gas foundation and acs - cookers/fires/boilers/cpa1/ccn1 couple of months ago
we needed evidence of 12 boilers 8 fires 6 cookers on the job and the same off the job, could be install/service or repair

I'm only saying about the 'on the job' portfolio part only, I agree that you need to have sound knowledge of all the other components of CCN1 and the appliances.

I suppose it depends on the level of experience of the student. I have been working alongside a GSR part time on and off for 10 years and running my own plumbing firm for 8 years, just been doing wet.

I also have my unvented and 17th edition.

Yes, Terry & Mark.

All done now, ACS booked for a week on Monday.

I'am a trainee Gas Engineer and also doing work placement and I am on my 25th Job But I need a Minimum of 30+ jobs
before I sit my ACS exam.
Great if you only need 20
