Gas proving unit ?

What is one ? The lads that do the gas on our jobs havent got a clue what one is and never heard of it ! And neither had the boss ! Yet the landlords to the units are saying there needs to be gas solenoid and a gas proving unit ?

So what does it do ?

Im not installin purely to pass on the info

Basically it's a transducer that sits on the downstream side of the solenoid. The solenoid opens briefly, the transducer then monitors the downstream pipework for a drop in pressure over a given period. If all's well then the solenoid will open.

I usually fit these in kitchens and tie in the supply and extract air systems so the panel won't even go to proving unless the fans are on.

Any links ? Or brands u recomend ! The boss hasnt a clue so what he gets told he will buy ! But we have two of these units both need one and he hasnt quoted for these ! Ohwell !

Is it somthing that can be retro fotted so to speak ? There are extraction hoods, solenoids and an ansull system going in already ! Or does it all need to be wired into one of those panels ? Thanks croppie i owe you a pint !

If i have to retro fit somthing just means wearing a afro, unbuttoning the shirt and gettins some shagpile carpet for chest hair ! Oh and digging out the medallion from top of the tool box !

serious note it means like to fit to an already installed system ! Like an add on type of thing !
