What qualification is there for someone wanting to be a gas engineer and not a plumber? If nvq2 is for plumbing and nvq3 is for gas. I take it you can't do 3 without doing 2. If you wanted to just do gas what options are there apart from acs training?

Regards

I am hoping to gain my acs within the next few months. I was just hoping to get another qualification that is worth a bit more.

Well what is your aim if its doing breakdowns u'll need to do courses on the boilers and fault finding
If its installations you'll need plumbing knowledge

your getting mixed up mate, the nvq is plumbing, the nvq is advanced plumbing with some gas built in.
if you want to be a gas fitter you should do the gas nvq2 and nvq not plumbing

Cheers Franky, it's boiler breakdowns, servicing and landlord certificates that I want to carry out. So once I have completed my BPec foundation and Acs training and assessments I will aim towards nvq2 in gas. Thanks fuzzy. I take it I may be able to use my acs portfolio towards the nvq portfolio?

they are totally different quals but yes there is no need to do both nvq and bpec foundation. i would always recommend the nvq routes as they are more designed towards total training, the gas one has basic pluminbg, the bpec is purely gas. if i were starting out the bpec is the quickest route and the nvq the best, make your own choice
