hi i am wondering if you can help my boss has asked me about the regualtions on schools regarding gas he is wanting the regulation for having to fit gas shut off and pressure sensors in science labs at a school i can not find anything regarding this so was wondering if anyone out there can help any info much appreciated

They gas installation standard for educational establishments is Institute of gas engineers document IGE/UP/11 2nd edition. £46 for IGE members £70 for non members. Shocking I know, but thats normal for BSi and IGE documents.

You need a manual AECV, then and electronic solonoid valve with proofing device, which checks the down stream inegrity before the valve will open. Normally the control panel will most likely be key operated to prevent unauthorised use.

sounds like the days of lighting the gas taps is over then

I looked at some gas safety equipment from intelligas but I don't think it's BS6173 etc. tested, so I think there could be insurance repercussions. Also they don't seem to be Gas Safe members or have any quality accreditations. Flashy website, but no real technical info....

Anyone had any experience?

If you can hang on a day or so I have my commercial regs book in the van, can scan and upload for you if you want?

I did try to contact their customer services recently to get some prices, the stuff they sell seems ok (i did an installation recently and an intelligas interlock was in place, but without knowing the cost I couldn't comment further..

i fit s & s northern panels, they are good quality, not cheap but will pass insurance standards, I fit them in schools, care homes, restaurants etc no issues to report back, simple enough to fit. There's a few option with current monitoring if you don't want to fit pressure sensors to extract and fresh air ductwork, there is a great panel that combines both fan speed controls too but that cost me around £650

you will need a proving system if any of your equipment has no flame failure device / non-ce approved unit.

i hope may help answer your question.

Hey Col
Thanks. That is ancient history now, but I appreciate the sentiment.
I did speak to someone at intelligas I think it's a pretty small operation. He was a bit of an arrogant pr*ck so I ended up going with a more established mfr.
Thankd for your interest.
