I had an interesting conversation just with gassafe after seeing some dodgy work. Having nothing on this morning i dropped the mrs off in the town and said id wait for her. Im sat there looking at the flats behind the carpark and see 2 gas pipes running about 15' across the backwall of the car park with no support, the pipework is danggling about 2-3" in the middle with the weight. Both ends are showing about 2-3"of plastic before being sleeved. I then notice several flues that havnt been made good, air bricks with pipe through them instead of a hole being drilled in the wall and probably 10 holes in the wall from what look like where old balanced flues were terminated and not made good.

Having nothing better to do just i thought il call gassafe and see there response. They said the councils work has nothing to do with them  and to call the councils building control, so i did and the woman i spoke to didnt know what i was on about and was i asking if these things were normal. I told her i was gas qualified an everything and she said did i want transcos number :s i said no and she said she will get someone to call me from there technical department later. Im wondering here are councils a law unto themselves or something...i look forward to someone getting back to me.

any comments....

Cheers

Ace.

The owner of the building doesn't matter, if the gas work isn't right it is wrong, however as we know nothing will be done unless Gas Safe are invited in by tenant or owner, play the long game with the council and get yourself some QA work from them haha, I charge plenty as a consultant

As above good old gas safe. Put it in writing, they can't ignore it then.

Unless there are warning notices the council wont give a rats as somebody has probably signed it off as safe so the council are covered.

I am glad im not the only person to be sat there and notice these things. Around me I spotted an old gas riser to a block of flats the flats are long gone but this main is still their swinging about in the wind I reported it to ESP and its still there now about 6 months on.

If that's the case, why have all the council vans here got GSR logos?

even if transco come out they won't do anything about the issues. They will just confirm there's no gas leak and be gone again!

National grid came out to sort the dangling pipe but obviously say the flues and obstructed vents etc have nothing to do with them so i think i will write to gassafe monday explaining the council believe they are doing nothing wrong. I think i may also go around and document each of these situations for the hell of it if i get time. Could even be time to get a slab of RIDDORS to send off.
